read the description of each workshops carefully in the following pages and
then fill in your first and second choices on the
Workshop Registration Form.
Please keep a copy and send this form when you send in your Conference Registration Form.
Workshop Tool Lists On receipt of your registration form you will be sent a list of the tools, materials etc. that are required for your workshops. If you are travelling and require a marble tooling surface, skiving glass, stitching clamp or any other heavy equipment or tools, please notify Cherryl so that these can be made available for you to use during the workshops.
Cancellation The organisers reserve the right to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances. You will then be transferred to your second workshop choice. You will be notified immediately should this occur.

ROBERT WITTHAHN (AUSTRALIA)
Robert, commenced his career in Leather in 1989, training as a bookbinder in his native country Germany. Robert is highly regarded throughout Australia for his creative jewel boxes using only exotic and Australian leathers. Robert has an innovative and creative mind and is constantly refining his skills adding new and exciting boxes to his extensive range. His work is constantly in demand and always admired by many. A fine craftsman.

RECTANGULAR CROCODILE BOX
2-DAY WORKSHOP - MATERIAL COST $ 90.00
ROBERT WITTHAHN (AUSTRALIA)
Prerequisite: This workshop is for the advanced student, you must have attended one of Robert’s workshops previously to attend. Skiving skills are of the utmost importance to complete this project. This is a new box designed by Robert for our conference. The box is covered in Kangaroo leather and featured with the crocodile leather inlay. The interior lift out trinket tray and lining are made from kangaroo and suede leathers.
CHESS BOARD
2-DAY WORKSHOP - MATERIAL COST $ 35.00
ROBERT WITTHAHN (AUSTRALIA)
The Chess board is made from Vegetable Tanned Kangaroo Leather, the squares are 30 x 30 mm and the finished size of the board including the border is 330 x 330 mm. This workshop requires a steady hand to cut the squares and skiving skills.

ROUND BOX
1-DAY WORKSHOP - MATERIAL COST $ 25.00
ROBERT WITTHAHN (AUSTRALIA)
This is a great introduction for the beginner who has not previously attended one of Roberts Jewel Box workshops.
The round box features a Fish skin lid and the interior is lined with soft suede.
Robert will have available skiving knives for students to purchase.
GEORGE YORKSTON (AUSTRALIA)
George has spent many years managing properties throughout western Queensland. On retirement to Toowoomba he met with Bill Glasglow and this friendship developed George's interest in plaiting.
Today, George concentrates on plaiting whips in white and red hide including Kangaroo. He has perfected and plaited up to 24 strands in Kangaroo. He now concentrates on plaiting 8 and 12 strands with the occasional 16. His work is constantly in demand.
George is a member of the Australian Whipmakers and Plaiters Association.
BEGINNERS PLAITING
2-DAY WORKSHOP - MATERIAL COST $ 20.00
GEORGE YORKSTON (AUSTRALIA)
Kangaroo leather is far superior to any other known leather in respect to lateral strength, flexibility, appearance and scuff resistance. Learn the art of Australian bush craft - plaiting.
This workshop will cover the correct procedure on how to select your hide, how to cut and prepare lacing stands which you will then stretch and bevel.
You will learn how to master your tension to plait round and flat plaits, including decorative knots.

PLAITING AND BRAIDING
1-DAY WORKSHOP - MATERIAL COST $ 20.00
GEORGE YORKSTON (AUSTRALIA)
Learn the traditional bush craft of plaiting, braiding and knots.
This workshop will cover round and flat plaits as well as Turks head knots for your small projects.
THE SWIVEL KNIFE
1-DAY WORKSHOP - MATERIAL COST $ 17.00
JACK WORTHINGTON (AUSTRALIA)
Jack will cover all aspects of the swivel knife, including:

In this workshop you will learn how to:
Items to Bring
Swivel knife with all of your blades.
Keen edge sharpening guide (If you can’t get one, there will be a small number available.)
Basic sharpening equipment will be supplied and included in your workshop material costs, but bring your own swivel knife blade sharpening equipment for assessment of suitability.
Leather will be provided for testing the sharpness of blades and for practice cuts.
