BEGINNER CARVING WORKSHOP

With 6 leather tools you can get creative and learn how to carve this panel that you can later attach to a Chaylor Leather double zippered wallet liner.

You will be learning how to use a swivel knife, bevel, and use pear shaders to create dimension. You can create a woven pattern that will form the back of the wallet. Bring your paint brushes to create a colourful scene that is sure to catch attention.

Note- this workshop is to create the panel to attach later. We will NOT be assembling the wallet.

ADVANCED CARVING WORKSHOP

To take your carving to the next level you will begin by examining and drawing aspects of Sheridan style patterns and then tooling them.

Short sessions will be broken up into drawing and tooling. Session one for example will examine basic flower formation, and advanced tooling techniques to bring them to life. We will cover sticker/stem formation, transitions/joining of circles, secondary circles, and fillers and over-all layouts.

In each session you will be drawing and tooling. By combining drawing and tooling you will gain new insights into how to advance your tooling. You can then tool a design you have drawn or choose an available pattern focusing on techniques such as back bevelling, creating highlights, different styles of backgrounds and bevelling to make your tooling unique.

SHERIDAN STYLE CARVING

You will be tooling a Sheridan style design.

We will cover preparing leather for carving, ie moisture content, tool selection, cutting and tooling sequences backgrounding techniques and enhancing your tooling with decorative cuts.

The emphasis will be on tooling rather than making a project, but this piece will fit the double zippered insert from Chaylor.
