KNIFE & TOOLS SHARPENING

ONE DAY WORKSHOP (MONDAY & THURSDAY).

There will be no machinery used in this workshop


Knives You will be taught to understand the principles of edge production and maintenance and will apply the knowledge by sharpening your own blades. Bring two or three knives of your own, for example, a head knife (full or half), a skiving knife, a general purpose knife and a Swivel knife and blades including ceramic blades.

Tools Jack will describe the different types of edge geometry used for leather cutting tools and will show you how to sharpen edge bevellers, including french edgers. Please bring along any tools that are old, unusual or for which the purpose is unknown and time permitting Jack will try to work out what they are used for and how to sharpen them.

Sharpening Equipment For this workshop students are to bring a Keen Edge Sharpening Guide for swivel knife blades. All other equipment will be provided by the instructor and the following items will be included in the material costs and are for the students to keep : Wet & Dry emery paper block, Diamond paste coated Strop and items for edge bevellers.
